After a break from my doula services to take time off to care for my mother, I am now back. I've made a few changes though....... Due to inceasing interventions at the hospital I am limiting my services a bit. I am very happy to help those who are considering a birth at a birth center and at home. If you are considering a hospital birth I will continue to work with those who are choosing Mortan Plant in Clearwater for their birth. My primary focus for those of you who are considering the hospital is education. During my free consultaiton with you I would like to discuss with you all your goals for your birth and offer guidance and suggested readings, video and excerise that will help you with your journey. I appreciate your understanding and direct you to the Tampa Bay Birth Network for a list of wonderful providers in every area of birthing, babies and family, who I highly recommend.
What is a Doula?
The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the
postpartum period. Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily.

I had my own children at home and it was an incredibly beautiful experience but before I could make that leap from hospital to home I had to read a ton of books. There is so much wonderful information out there. Everyone that is expecting should read up on everything they can get their hands on. Even if you choose to birth in the hospital, this information will be extremely valuable to you and your baby for a healthy and peaceful birth.
Here are some of the books I liked most. For more please go the "Business We Like" page. Thank you and happy reading!
